Our Method

The B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Coaching Model for Grief™ is the foundation of our grief certification program. Created by founder Pat Sheveland, this structured coaching framework prepares grief coaches to guide individuals and families through loss with clarity, care, and confidence.

Rooted in positive psychology, coaching core competencies, and Pat’s decades of experience as a nurse and grief coach, the model offers a practical, compassionate way to support grief across physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.

Rather than offering quick fixes or surface-level solutions, the B.R.E.A.T.H.E. model provides a clear, step-by-step process that helps clients build awareness, access support, and move forward in a way that honors their grief and their life.

Throughout the 12-week grief coach certification program, students learn how to apply the B.R.E.A.T.H.E. model step by step, gaining both practical grief coaching skills and the confidence to use them in real-world situations.

This approach is not a replacement for therapy. It is designed to complement other forms of support by offering structured, non-clinical guidance rooted in coaching principles. The model can be used with individuals who are newly grieving as well as those who have been carrying loss for years in both a 1:1 or group setting.

For students, the B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Coaching Model provides a clear framework they can trust, teach, and use immediately, helping them guide others through grief with steadiness, respect, and care.

Our hybrid learning approach incorporates live sessions with self-study online learning modules. All classes are taught in English.

  • Live Group Practicum Coaching Sessions
  • Self-directed online video training classes with Knowledge Assessments
  • 1:1 Virtual Human Design session by a trained Human Design coach
  • Required Reading: The Confident Grief Coach by Patricia Sheveland
  • Free Office Hours on Zoom once a month for current students and alumni

Program Investment

Tuition includes full enrollment, all required course reading materials, 1:1 Human Design session (if all required birth information is submitted), and all resources for the B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Coaching Model for Grief™ program.

A $500.00 Deposit is required at the time of registration.

The Confident Grief Coach School also offers flexible in-house financing and tuition payment options.

Frequently Asked Questions

A pay-in-full discount is offered to all students who pay their tuition in full prior to class start date.

For the multi-payment option:

  • Deposit payment due upon enrollment
  • First installment due by 1st of the month prior to class start date
  • Remaining installments due by 1st of remaining months thereafter (credit card on file for required autopay)

Students who fail to meet the payment deadlines in their payment plan are restricted from participating in the program until all outstanding financial obligations to the school are met.

The Confident Grief Coach School has a limited refund policy because we only accept students who have a clear commitment to completing their training and certification.

When you had your pre-enrollment interview, you knew that this was the program for you or you would not have signed up to begin with.

We trust that you made the right choice.

However, we do not want you to start the program if you decide you are unable to be fully committed due to life circumstances so we have a very limited refund policy.

We believe in you and are committed to your success. We will hold that space of success for you throughout the program and that is why our refund policy is structured in the following way:

  • For Cancellations made prior to program start date: Cancellation of a course must be made a minimum of ten (10) business days prior to the course to be eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made less than ten (10) days before the course (but prior to class start date) are not eligible for refund of the enrollment down payment but will be refunded any non-down payment fees previously paid by student. Written notice of cancellation shall be effective on the date the withdrawal is received by The Confident Grief Coach School. Refunds will be made within thirty (30) days following receipt of cancellation or withdrawal requests.
  • For cancellations requested after program start date: Because of the work we do, we do recognize that significant life-altering events can occur. Should this happen and interfere with you completing your course during your scheduled you may request a one-time transfer of your registration to another class. Requests are not guaranteed to be granted and will be reviewed by the Director of the School on a case-by-case basis.

At this time, we cannot process any other forms of financial aid but during your enrollment call, we will discuss other opportunities that you may find helpful to seek financial support to attend the program.

For organizations, a multi-person discount is available upon request.
